Electronic Metadata Catalogue (EMC) and Data Capture Project Register (DCPR)
Kartoza was contracted by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) to develop a FOSS Electronic Metadata Catalogue (EMC) and Data Capture Project Register (DCPR) system.
Overview
The EMC and DCPR are components of the South African Spatial Data Infrastructure (SASDI). The EMC provides a mechanism for data custodians to make metadata of geospatial information in their holding available to users. On the other hand, the DCPR, provides an environment for the registration of the intentions to capture new geospatial data or update existing ones. An EMC and DCPR system provide a central location where users can search and discover the location and existence of geospatial information and new projects to create new data sets or update existing ones.
The only limit on what technology could be utilised to develop the systems was that the solution needed to be hosted on DALRRD’s Windows-based infrastructure. Kartoza developed a CKAN-based solution to the project.
