miniSASS

MiniSASS (mini Stream Assessment Scoring System) is a simple, cost-effective biomonitoring tool used to assess the ecological health of rivers and streams in South Africa. Kartoza worked with GIS-Solutions on contract to Groundtruth, who had funding from the Water Research Commission, to build a web platform for the public to capture and explore miniSASS water quality scores. Public entries are validated in the back-office and administrators can edit content in QGIS via WFS-T.

Phase 3 (01/04/2025 - 31/10/2025)

Kartoza served as the project’s specialised digital solutions provider, responsible for delivering all technical upgrades, integrations, and platform enhancements required for the miniSASS website and mobile application. Acting as an independent sub-consultant to GroundTruth, Kartoza leads the design and implementation of system improvements, including data-safety compliance, interoperability between web and mobile environments, bug fixing, user-experience enhancements, expanded data-capture capabilities, analytics integration, and deployment of the upgraded app to the Google Play Store. Kartoza was also accountable for supporting multilingual availability, facilitating Single Sign-In integration with UNICEF Yoma, and ensuring all deliverables are completed in alignment with project timelines and partner specifications
