Enhancements to the African Data Drive (ADD) Tool
Kartoza partnered with the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) to enhance the African Data Drive (ADD) tool — an initiative aimed at improving data-driven biodiversity management across Africa.
Overview
The African Data Drive supports conservation efforts by integrating under-used African datasets and aligning them with local values and priorities. The platform enables users to anticipate future biodiversity threats and land-use changes, fostering better-informed environmental decision-making across diverse socio-economic contexts.
Kartoza’s role in this collaboration focused on:
- Improving user experience (UX): refining interface workflows for smoother navigation and accessibility.
- Enhancing performance: optimising data handling and processing to ensure faster and more reliable tool performance.
- Deployment to Google Earth Engine (GEE): publishing the enhanced version to the university’s GEE account, enabling wider access and integration with geospatial analyses.
Through these enhancements, Kartoza contributed to empowering African researchers and decision-makers with practical, locally relevant, and forward-looking tools to address biodiversity loss on the continent.
